Police have closed Centenary Way between Main Street and and Ickles Roundabout this evening following a Road Traffic Accident.
The accident outsideย the New York Stadium is resulting in long delays throughout the local area.ย
A lorry blocked the entry sliproad to the M1 southbound at junction 35 in Thorpe Hesley this morning.
A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support Unit said:
โThere are no reported injuries, however recovery efforts are likely to take some time.โ
โWe are asking motorists to avoid the area whilst we carry out this recovery and will update when access to the M1 is restored.โ
A partial closure of the roundabout was later put in place to allow recovery to commence.
Police in Rotherham launched Operation Quilt this week, a campaign toย crackdown on burglary.
The campaign saw its first success when FIVE arrests were made on Saturday.
The arrests included a man aged 39 who was charged with Burglary and remanded in custody. And a second man aged 21 was charged with Burglary and Vehicle Theft who was also remanded in custody.
A further THREE was arrested overnight includingย 1 planned arrest and 2 in response to an occurring crime.
Detective Chief Inspector said “Some people think Christmas starts too early. Not for locking up burglars. This week in Rotherham we are focusing our attempts to prevent crime for the festive period. Itโs called #OperationQuilt.”
“If you commit Burglary we want you in prison for Christmas. And a happy new year.”
Detective Chief Inspector Martin Tate tweeted a picture of the seized weapons today and said : “All recovered by our Rotherham uniform response officers in one incident last night.”
โThese are the sorts of dangers our front line staff face. 24/7 they will respond to whatever danger is in front of them.
โThey need the public support to do it.โ
At around 11.30pm on Friday 23 November, it was reported that a 49-year-old man was assaulted on Corporation Street following an altercation with two unknown men and an unknown woman.ย
The 49-year-old suffered suspected slash injuries to his face, which required hospital treatment. It is not known at this time what weapon was used.ย
The suspects are then believed to have walked away towards Westgate.ย

Police were called to Cavendish Road on Friday evening following reports of a disturbance.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed that a male (17) was arrested for criminal damage and a second male also arrested for attempting to assault the detained male.
Both offenders was arrested resulting in restorative justice and a caution being issued.
Emergency Services responded to a two vehicle collision on Fitzwilliam Road last night.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed that a call was received at around 11pm (21 November) with reports of a collision on Fitzwilliam Road in Eastwood.
With two vehicles were involved.
Nobody was injured.E
It was reported just after 4.30pm on Monday a man entered the Best One shop on High Street and threatened staff with a knife.
The man, wearing gloves and had his face covered, then fled the scene with a quantity of cash.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the local area and witnessed the robbery or any suspicious activity.

At around 6.05am on Saturday 3 November, it was reported that a delivery driver pulled up outside the One Stop shop on Badsley Moor Lane, Rotherham.
As the man was unloading his lorry, two men wearing masks are understood to have approached and threatened the driver. One of the men is believed to have been carrying some sort of metal pole.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson added “The suspects are then reported to have left the scene in a vehicle, possibly a small four-wheel drive type vehicle, with a quantity of cigarettes.”
The delivery driver was not injured during the incident.
