Police were called at 5.13am yesterday morning (12 February) after it was reported that a car had been in collision with an unoccupied parked car and the wall of a house on Pleasley Road.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said “It is believed the car was then set alight deliberately. Enquires are ongoing.”
The man was found lying unconscious, with life-threatening injuries on Midland Road, at the junction with Garden Street at around 6.25pm last Monday (4 February),
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said “he was taken to hospital where he sadly died yesterday afternoon (Sunday 10 February).”
Three men, aged 18, 19 and 37, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident remain on police bail.
Detective Chief Inspector James Axe, leading the investigation, said: โAs our enquiries continue we remain keen to hear from anyone who was in the area when the assault took place.
“While the man has not yet been formally identified, his family have been informed and are continuing to receive support from specialist officers.”

Itโs believed that three masked men entered the property on Wednesday (6th February), taking a box containing jewellery.

โThey left in a vehicle and headed towards the Whiston cross roads.โ
โInvestigations are in the early stages, and enquiries continue.โ
Police were called at around 5am on Tuesday (5 February) to reports of a disturbance at a property on Laudsdale Road, East Herringthorpe.
Police recovered cannabis and items associated with suspected cannabis production.
Klevin Collaku, 25, and Danjel Zadrima, 26 and Mihaela-ana Mirica, 21, all of Laudsdale Road were charged with being concerned in the production of cannabis.
They will appear before Sheffield Magistratesโ Court today (6 February).
Police said that at around 5am this morning (5th February) an aggravated burglary was reported at a property on Laudsdale Road, East Herringthorpe.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said that “Investigations are in the early stages” and a police cordon was in place, whilst enquiries continued.

Emergency services were called to Midland Road at the junction with Garden Street, Masbrough, at 6.25pm yesterday following reports that a man had been injured.
South Yorkshire Police said that “an assessment of his injuries at hospital indicated that the man had been seriously assaulted.”
“The man, believed to be in his 30s, remains in hospital in a critical condition.”
Midland Road remains closed this morning while investigations take place and officers carry out enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At around 5.30pm on Friday (25th January) it was reported that a red and black Ford Fiesta and a blue Honda Civic were involved in a collision on Sandy Lane, Bramley, near to the entrance of Sandy Lane Farm.
The Fiesta is believed to have been travelling from Bramley towards Thurcroft, with the Civic travelling in the opposite direction.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said “a 26-year-old man driving the Fiesta and a 41-year-old woman driving the Civic were both taken to hospital with serious injuries. Both remain in hospital in a stable condition.’
“A passenger in the Civic, an eight-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries.”
Police are asking anyone who was in the Sandy Lane area or witnessed the collision to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 638 of January 25.
Emergency Services were called to the road traffic collision underneath the railway bridge on Bawtry Road in Brinsworth at the junction with Whitehill Lane at around 6pm this evening. (31st January)
West Yorkshire Police were called to an address in Luddendenfoot, Halifax, at 12.18am after reports of suspicious behaviour.
A police spokesperson said “Two men, aged 21 and 24, were later arrested in the South Yorkshire area on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle.”
Emergency services were called to Canklow Roundabout at around 7am this morning after a container lorry overturned.
The roundabout has since been closed to allow a recovery operation to take place involving specialist equipment.
Police have advised it could take a few hours before the scene is clear and to avoid the area if possible.
