Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian died in a collision in the Ravenfield area last night (14 March). 

Emergency services were called to Common Lane at 8.15pm last night following a collision between a car and a pedestrian. 

A Police Spokesperson said “It is reported that a black Dacia Duster was in collision with a pedestrian who is believed to have been in the road near to the junction with Bramley Lane.”

“The pedestrian, a 42-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the pedestrian’s movements prior to the collision or saw the car in the area before the collision is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 867 of 14 March.

FIVE people have been arrested after a Town Centre ‘assault’ leaving a man with serious head injuries.

Police were called to Bridgegate in the Town Centre at 4.45pm this evening (9th March) to reports of an assault in the road.

A police spokesperson said: “One man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.”

“Five people have been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”

Bridgegate remains cordoned off whilst officers investigate the incident.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to assist but the injured male was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Anyone with information about the incident is advised to call police on 101.

Operation Duxford returned to Rotherham today (Friday 8th March) focusing on a day of community engagement, targeted enforcement activity and warrants, tackling the issues that matter most to local residents and businesses.

The operation began early this morning with a public multi-agency briefing outside Riverside House attended by Chief Constable Stephen Watson.

Chief Inspector Chris Foster said spoke about the the activities that will be taking place throughout the day: “By now, most people will have seen or experienced an Operation Duxford in Rotherham before.”

“This time, we’ve really focused our efforts on issues that have been raised directly by our communities, and implemented a bespoke policing plan that we hope will really make a difference.”

“Without divulging too much detail at the early stages of this operation, I hope that later in the day I’ll be sharing with you some positive results and that this activity will make an impact across the town.”

“There’ll be an increased police presence generally across key areas of Rotherham, so if you see our officers out and about, say hi to them. There will be some crime prevention stands popping up across Rotherham as well, so stop and have a chat with your local officers!”

Police are appealing for witnesses after a reported robbery of a Post Office in the Thurcroft where a man threatened staff at knifepoint

At around 7.15am, an unknown man entered the Post Office in Thurcroft, on Green Arbour Road, and threatened staff with a knife, a police spokesperson said.

The man then fled the scene with a quantity of cash.

The man is is described as being white, of medium build, and was wearing a pale-coloured coat with a hood and carrying a backpack.
