South Yorkshire Police attended Lathe Road, Whiston at 12.45am following reports of a disturbance.
It was reported that a number of offenders had arrived at the property and damaged a vehicle parked outside, before the victim was threatened at knifepoint inside the address, a spokeswoman for the force said.
Three 20-year-year old men have been arrested on suspicion of affray.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of threats to kill, aggravated burglary and ABH.
And a 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and aggravated burglary.
All suspects remain in police custody at this time, confirmed the spokeswoman.
Police were called by a member of hospital staff at 8.54pm reporting that two patients had been fighting.
One of the patients, a 48-year-old man, died of his injuries in the early hours of this morning.
A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.We are working closely with the hospital and will remain on scene this evening as we conduct enquiries.

It is reported that at around 1:30pm on Friday 7 January a blue Skoda Fabia was travelling along Haugh Road when it was in collision with a pedestrian at the junction of Green Rise.
The pedestrian, a 43-year-old man, suffered serious injuries.
Emergency services attended, but despite their efforts the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
His family are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.
The driver of the Skoda, a 20-year-old man from the town, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Enquiries are ongoing and police now want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have seen the Skoda driving in the area prior to the incident.

Police in Rotherham are appealing for any information regarding an alleged attempted abduction on Thursday (23 December)
At around 7pm, a ten-year-old boy was walking to the shops on Browning Road, Herringthorpe.
The boy noticed a red Toyota parked nearby.
The occupant of the Toyota, a white man wearing a snood / balaclava and gloves, reportedly asked the boy where he was going. The man is then said to have followed the boy, parked up, and then followed him back home. As the boy neared his address, the man is then said to have grabbed hold of his jacket and tried to drag him in to the car.
Investigating Officer, Rachel Scott said: โThis is a really concerning report from a young child and we are doing everything we can to trace the man and vehicle involved.
โWe have officers in the area making enquiries, but I encourage anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to get in touch.โ

Officers were called at 10:24am on Tuesday (November 22) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Upper Wortley Road with Old Wortley Road involving a pedestrian and a car.
Upon arrival police discovered that a pedestrian, an 84 year-old woman had been involved in a collision with a grey F Pace Jaguar.
The woman sustained injuries to her pelvis and head and was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition
The driver of the Jaguar stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Emergency services were called at 10.24am following reports of a road traffic collision on Old Wortley Road, Kimberworth.
On arrival it was discovered that a 80-year-old woman had been in collision with a car, she was taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries a police spokesperson confirmed.
The junction of Old Wortley Road and Wortley Road was closed for a number of hours to allow a police investigations to take place.

Emergency Services responded to a collision involving a number of vehicles at around 2:10pm this afternoon.
3 lanes remain closed whilst emergency services carry out their works.
Officers were called at around 10.15pm on Wednesday to reports that an 18 year-old man had been stabbed close to All Saintโs Square.
Upon arrival officers also discovered that an 18-year-old woman had been assaulted and had items stolen from her.
The teenager was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his abdomen, where he remains in a stable but critical condition.
The woman did not require medical treatment.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Detective Inspector Nina Jackson said: โOur enquiries so far suggest that this young man was injured during an attempted robbery.
โWe believe that there was a series of confrontations outside the transport interchange and McDonalds before the victim was injured in All Saints Square. Witnesses reported seeing around three men leaving the scene and enquiries to identify them are progressing quickly.โ
We are currently reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses, but I am urging anyone who has information about what happened to please contact us.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police responded to a report of a concern for safety for a man at an address in Bawtry Road, Brecks, at around 3:30pm on Tuesday.
“Emergency services attended the scene and a man in his 60s was taken to hospital via ambulance.
