Duo jailed after week-long crime spree

by Admin

Two men have been jailed for eight years between them for their parts in home burglaries across the town

Gary Allott received five years in prison for three burglaries and the theft of a motor vehicle, and Kieran Glaister was given three years for his part in two of the same burglaries committed with Allott.

Allott had first burgled a property on East Bawtry Road on 11 April this year in which cash and bonds were taken after breaking a kitchen window. Allott also took the keys to a Hyundai i10 and helped himself to the vehicle.

A blood stain left by Allott by the smashed window later linked him to the offence.

A few days later on 17 April, Allott – this time accompanied by Glaister – struck at a property on Lathe Road. They helped themselves to a number of items and Allott left via the rear of the property while Glaister left via the front. Glaister was intercepted by officers while he tried to flee and was arrested at the scene.

CCTV footage of the back of the property also linked Allott to the scene.

Another incident was then called in by a resident of a different property on East Bawtry Road to the first offence.

They had awoken on 17 April to find somebody had taken tools out of their garage and tried to gain entry to their house, getting no further than the porch. Again, CCTV was used and this time linked both Allott and Glaister to the scene.

Both were later charged with the offences, pleaded guilty, and sentenced on Monday (31 July).

Allott, age 51, of The Lanes, Rotherham, was sentenced for three counts of burglary of a dwelling, and one count of taking a motor vehicle with the owner’s consent. He was sentenced to a total of five years in prison.

Glaister, age 32, of no fixed address, was sentenced for two counts of burglary of a dwelling. He was sentenced to three years in total.

Investigations Officer Molly Southworth, who led the investigation said: “Burglary is a very personal offence that sees people enter the sanctuary of your home. It can leave you feeling very vulnerable where you are supposed to feel safest.

“We hope that by securing sentencings for these two individuals will help those residents of the three properties be able to start moving on from their ordeal knowing they are off the streets and locked away.”
