Plans have been submitted for a new battery energy storage facility in Brinsworth
YLEM Energy Group, the applicant, aims to build the facility on land off Brinsworth Road in Rotherham, currently used for equestrian activities.
The proposed development would feature battery clusters, a site office, and a substation within a fenced compound.
Local residents have until October 17 to submit comments via the councilโs website.
The facility is intended to store electricity for the National Grid during periods of low demand and release it when demand peaks.
YLEM Energy Group stated that the system would enhance the efficiency of renewable energy production, particularly from wind power.
If approved, the facility will operate for 30 years before being decommissioned and the land restored to green space.
While hundreds of energy storage facilities have already been established across the UK, concerns have been raised about fire risks and environmental impacts associated with such projects.
In March earlier this year, plans were submitted for a similar development in Wickersley
