Petrol used in ‘deliberate’ Mexborough fire

A deliberate fire in the early hours of this morning caused significant damage to a Mexborough shop.

Firefighters from Dearne, Rotherham and Edlington stations were called at 0.05am this morning (27 March) to reports of a shop on Bank Street, Mexborough.

Upon arrival, firefighters wearing breathing entered the premises and extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that the fire had been started deliberately in a number of different places by using petrol as an accelerant.

Nobody was injured in the incident and it had been dealt with by 1.40am.

Firefighters tackle furnace fire

Firefighters from Rotherham, Elm Lane, Dearne and Parkway stations were called to a aluminium factory at 3.43am this morning (Tuesday 26 March) to reports of a fire.

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus went in to tackle theย fire and had extinguished it by 4.49am.

Upon arrival of the crews they discovered a fire within a furnace that had got out of control.

It’s believed the fire had started accidentally, a spokesperson confirmed.

Firefighters left site at around 5am.

Man dies after Swallownest flat fire

A MAN has died after a flat fire in Swallownest on Wednesday night (21st March).

Fire crews were called to the incident on Gray Avenue at 11.30pm.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the cause was currently under investigation.

Fire crews called to attic fire in Kimberworth

Fire Crews from Rotherham, Elm Lane and Parkway Stations were called to Kimberworth Road at 11:00am yesterday (21 March)

The crews attended an attic fire above a Cafe on Kimberworth Road at 11am after receiving reports of smoke rising from roof tiles, a spokesperson from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue confirmed.

It’s believed the fire was caused by an accidental electric fault.

Storm Gareth evacuates Moorgate Hotel after fallen tree

Firefighters were called out to the Brentwood Hotel in Moorgate this morning after strong winds blew a tree down on to the building.

Firefighters from Rotherham station were called out to Brentwood Hotel in Moorgate at 6:30 this morning.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said that “no one was injured in the incident”

The pub and hotel remains open today whilst tree surgeons work on removing the fallen tree.

THREE extracted from Brampton car crash

THREE people were extracted from a car crash in Brampton Bierlow last night.

Emergency Services were called Knollbeck Lane at 9pm last night (11th March).

A Police spokesperson said “This vehicle had been requested to stop by officers a few moments before it crashed. A number of males from the vehicle have been attended to by the Ambulance service.”

“There will be road closures in place for a period of time while investigation work is undertaken at the scene.”

South Yorkshire Police have asked any members of the public that witnessed the incident or has any dash cam or CCTV footage to contact them on 101 quoting inc number SYP-2019-20190311-0945

Firefighters investigating ‘reports of smoke’ in Town Centre premises

Firefighters are currently on scene at a commercial premises in Rotherham Town Centre after receiving reports of smoke.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed that they were called to Bridgegate in Rotherham Town Centre at 3pm this afternoon after receiving reports of reports of smoke inside a property.

Five crews remain on the scene this evening.

East Dene evacuated over “gas safety” concerns

A number of properties in East Dene were evacuated and a police cordon put in place this afternoon after concerns about gas.

Central Avenue, Green Road and Moor Road were closed after a gas engineer raised concerns about the safety of a property.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said that “as a precaution the roads were closed & some residents evacuated.”

“We want to reassure the local community that the road closures and evacuations are a precautionary measure at this time – there has not been an explosion.”

The roads re-opened just after 1:30pm and those evacuated could return to their homes.

Fire crews attend Canklow caravan fire

TWO Fire Crews are currently in attendance on Wood Lane in Canklow after a caravan was torched.

Crews from Rotherham and Parkway were called at around 8pm on Thursday evening (21st February) after a caravan was reported to be on fire in the rear of a property.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed that the fire was started deliberately.
