WATCH: Woman six times over drink-drive limit unable to walk when stopped by police on M1

by Admin

Police have shared footage of a woman who was nearly six times over the drink-drive limit on the M1 and was unable to walk to the police car without collapsing.

A driver who blew nearly six times over the drink drive limit and could not walk to the police car without falling over will now appear before court.

Yesterday (19 December) just before 2pm, roads policing officers responded to reports of a collision on the M1.

Upon their arrival, their immediate need was to get the woman from the car that had stopped in a live lane of the motorway and get her to safety.

As the officer opened the door, he had suspicion to believe the driver may be over the drink drive limit. As the officer began to pull her from the car, she was unable to walk and fell to the floor.

After getting her safely in the back of a police car, she blew 191 on a breathalyser, with the legal limit being 35.

Footage of the woman has been released to highlight the dangers of drink driving as Christmas and New Year approach.

Temporary Roads Policing Inspector Brandon Brown explains more: โ€œOne in six fatal collisions involves a drink driver. The decision to get behind the wheel after a drink can be devastating.

โ€œAs experienced roads policing officers, we have sadly had to be that person that delivers the devastating news someoneโ€™s loved one has died, approaching a house with Christmas lights and cheer brings a greater darkness upon you.

โ€œWe are proactively patrolling the roads and carrying out operations to catch those who increase the risk to other road users and reduce casualties on our roads.

โ€œWe canโ€™t be everywhere; everyone has a responsibility. If you are going out and planning to have a drink, make a plan โ€“ and leave the car at home.โ€

The woman, aged in her 30s, has since been charged and will appear before Sheffield Magistratesโ€™ Court today (20 December).
