Rough sleepers in Rotherham are being offered emergency accommodation as a Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated
A SWEP is a local authority’s temporary response to the risks from severe weather. The protocol is accessible to anyone who needs help. This includes people who do not have recourse to public funds or a priority need for homeless help.
The trigger follows as forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning for heavy snow and freezing rain which comes into place from midday on Saturday (January 4) and is in place until 9am on Monday (January 6).
RMBC said ‘If you’re concerned about someone sleeping rough, you can report them to Rotherham Council by phoning 01709 336009 or emailing [email protected] between 8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.”
“We have regular outreach service across the Borough and will aim to respond to any alerts in a timely manner. Please provide as much information as possible about the location of the individual you are calling about.”
“Between 5pm to 8:30am please call the homeless out of hours service on 01709 336009.”
