Drivers warned of closures ahead of Clifton Park Concert

by Admin

Various roads in Rotherham Town Centre will be closed due to The Reytons playing at Clifton Park on Saturday

Roads including Middle Lane, Clifton Lane, Wharncliffe Street, Doncaster Gate and Badsley Moor Lane will be closed from 9.30pm until 11.30pm on Saturday (6 July.)

Travel South Yorkshire have advised that services X1, X2, 207, 19a and 21 will be on a diverted route.

Rotherham Council recently approved a proposed parking fee of £5 and the use of Herringthorpe Playing Fields as a temporary carpark for the event.

They said the proposed fee was based on several factors. Firstly, parking at Herringthorpe is usually only offered during the Rotherham Show, a free event for local communities, whereas this event targets fans of the band, potentially from outside the borough, with ticket prices at £50.65.

Secondly, the council aims to test the feasibility of hosting similar music events in the park while ensuring the event generates sufficient revenue to cover costs.

Lastly, by setting a lower fee than other concert venues, the council hopes to encourage concert-goers to use the designated parking area, thereby preventing traffic management issues and minimising inconvenience to local residents.

Over 20,000 people are expected to turn out for one of the largest music events held in the borough.
