Two lanes of the carriageway on Centenary Way have been closed for over a month after a load fell from a lorry
On August 10th, council engineers responded to reports that a load had fell from a HGV and caused damage to the structure of the bridge running over the River Don
Each side of the carriage way has been reduced to one lane using cones, whilst the damage remains covered by a wooden sheet.
At the time of the accident, daylight could be seen shining through the bridge into the car park at New York Stadium
Simon Moss, Assistant Director of Environment and Regeneration said: โSafety remains our priority. We are working hard with engineering consultants, contractors, and business with sites located under the viaduct, to agree availability and available dates for works to be carried out.
โCentenary Way will be fully reopened as soon as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the road restrictions.โ
Information boards explaining the reason for the lane closures will be installed at the roadside this week.
