Rotherham Borough Council have confirmed this afternoon that the town has a presumed positive case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

In a statement by RMBC they have advised that “Rotherham has a presumed positive case of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus).”

“The council is working closely with its health partners and arrangements are in place to manage the situation.”

Public Health England are dealing with the situation and it is important to remember the advice that this is an evolving situation which is being carefully monitored and the current risk to the UK population is low to moderate.

If you have any concerns or show symptoms please call NHS 111. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

The recommended prevention and good practice guidance is to make sure everyone follows simple hygiene rules, such as:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
