A 160-house development could be built near Brinsworth, on land previously purchased for Rotherham United training center
Applicants Barratt & David Wilson Homesย propose a housing development on the former Outokumpu site, off Bawtry Road on the Sheffield side of the border with Brinsworth.
The outline application proposes up to 160 new houses with landscaping, public open space and a landscaped drainage basin. A new access point will be provided off Bawtry Road.
In 2011, Chairman Tony Stewart acquired the former Outokumpu sports complex on Bawtry Road, intending to transform it into a state-of-the-art facility for players across all levels, from the Academy to the senior team.
However, the project was postponed as efforts were focused on the New York Stadium and upgrades to the clubโs leased training ground at Roundwood.
The site is designated as open space but has not been used for well over a decade and so is not contributing to local sport or recreation needs.
