Two years later โ Rotherham Council plan essential repair works to A630 Centenary Way Viaduct
In 2022, Rotherham Council respondedย to reports of a load falling from a HGV, which caused damage to the viaduct running over the River Don. As a result, traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction with a 30mph speed limit.
Over two years later, the council announced plans to strengthen the concrete slabs under the bridgeโs central reservation, with work expected to be completed this winter.
Rotherham Council say the repairs are necessary to allow the slabs to expand in hot weather and contract in cooler temperatures, preventing further disruptions.
The work will be carried out Monday to Friday, except for the sections above the railway and Brinsworth Street, which will be repaired on weekends.
The road will remain open during these repairs, maintaining a 30mph speed limit and single lane traffic in both directions, while new slabs are installed.
For the safe installation of vehicle barriers, the road will be closed for three nights from July 1 to July 3, 2024, with signed diversions in place.
Road users should be aware that lane markings will temporarily change on the approach to Ickles Roundabout on Sheffield Road and the lower section of Centenary Way.
