A 37-year-old man has appeared in court charged with misuse of a public communications network

Police charged Nathan Andrews, of Greasbrough with misuse of a public communications network in relation to a series of nuisance calls into South Yorkshire Police Force Control Room over the festive period.

Andrews appeared before Sheffield Magistratesโ€™ Court yesterday (29 December). He has since been released on bail and will appear before the same court on 24 April 2024.

A police spokesperson said โ€œChristmas and the New Year period is an extremely busy time for our Force Control Room, and we are working hard to answer your emergency and non-emergency calls as quickly as possible.โ€

โ€œMaking false allegations and nuisance calls can prevent us answering your calls and could put others at risk who need our help. Weโ€™d like to remind the public that we will take robust action against offenders who seek to cause harm in this way.โ€
