by Admin

SDI Rotherham Ltd submitted plans to Rotherham Council earlier this year which could see Everlast Fitness, Sports Direct, USC and Game operate under the same roof

Since the closure of Homebase in 2010, Unit 3A has been occupied by outdoor brand, Millets, tech retailer, Best Buy, and Kiddicare

The application detailed plans for for the installation of a mezzanine floor comprising of 2,104sqm of gym space, with 170 sqm of ancillary floorspace (staff rooms and stock rooms).ย

The ground floor retail unit, which will be split into two smaller units will be occupied by the Sports Direct, USC and Game brands.

The development will result in the provision of an Everlast Fitness Club at the mezzanine level of the existing unit, retaining the ground floor for retail uses (to be occupied by the Sports Direct, USC and Game brands).ย

The gym will have a separate access from ground level. The resulting unit will have a total combined floorspace of 6,489sqm.

Currency, Sports Direct and USC already have units located at Parkgate.

The application said: โ€œIn 2014 Sports Direct bought out the LA Fitness chain of gyms and underwent a rebranding to Sports Direct/Everlast Fitness gyms. Once this rebranding was complete, the next step in growth of the brand was to amalgamate the two elements of their business, retail and gymnasium. The first unit to open an amalgamated store and gym was at Aintree, Liverpool, where a purpose-built scheme houses the two elements side by side.
