Man charged after attack on Police officer in Brecks

Police have charged a man after a Police officer was seriously assaulted in the Brecks area

A 22-year-old man will appear in court this morning (21 May) accused of seriously assaulting a police officer in the early hours of yesterday (20 May). 

It is reported that shortly before 3.30am, the response officer was on duty carrying out enquiries into suspicious behaviour on Bawtry Road in the Brecks area. 

He was attacked close by and suffered injuries to his head and chest.

“The officer was taken to hospital for tests and has since been discharged” police spokesperson confirmed.

Samuel Barnett, 22, of Garden Close has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, assaulting an emergency services worker, criminal damage, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and possession of a Class B drug. He is currently in police custody. 

Barnett is the second person to appear in court in connection with assaulting a Rotherham police officer this week. 

Nicole Walsh appeared before Magistrates yesterday facing assault and criminal damage charges after police were called to a suspected assault in Eastwood, in the early hours of Tuesday (19 May). 

Walsh is charged with assault, assaulting an emergency services worker and criminal damage. 

The 28-year-old, of St Leonard’s Lane, has been remanded in custody.
