Aldwarke Road will be โ€œclosed until further noticeโ€ after the railway bridge was struck by a lorry yesterday.

The bridge was closed at around 12:30pm yesterday after a collision dislodged three stones in the bridge leading to a concern around the safety of the bridge.

Network Rail have apologised for any inconvenience caused and are are due to visit the bridge later today to make a decision whether it can be reopened.

A Network Rail spokesperson said โ€œEngineers worked overnight to replace the large stones that were dislodged yesterday when the bridge on Aldwarke Lane, Rotherham was struck by a lorry.โ€

โ€œThe line was reopened first thing this morning and trains are running over the bridge at a reduced speed.โ€

โ€œFor safety reason the road under the bridge is closed to motorists and pedestrians until the concrete has set. Due to the cold weather the concrete is taking longer than usual to cure and the road will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.โ€

โ€œWe are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.โ€
