Three men from Rotherham have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Shanice Brookes in Sheffield
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the arrests relate to an altercation that took place moments before Shanice was fatally shot outside the One Four One bar on West Street during the early hours of Monday, 25 May.
Police were called shortly before 2.45am following reports that Shanice had been shot. Despite the efforts of emergency services, she sadly died a short time later in hospital.
Detectives say the shooting followed an altercation on Eldon Street, near the junction with West Hill Street, and that Shanice was a completely innocent bystander caught up in the events.
As part of the investigation, two 21-year-old men and a 31-year-old man, all from Rotherham, have been arrested on suspicion of affray. All three have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Matt Bolger said officers remain committed to securing justice for Shanice and her family.
He said: “We are determined to provide answers for Shanice’s family and friends who have had their lives shattered by this heartbreaking and devastating incident.
“Words cannot do justice to describe the unimaginable loss Shanice’s loved ones have experienced and we remain committed to securing justice for them.
“These arrests relate to an altercation that took place shortly before a firearm was discharged and Shanice was sadly fatally shot. We continue to explore every line of enquiry and will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to get justice for Shanice.”
Detective Inspector Bolger added that two people have already been charged in connection with the shooting and renewed the appeal for information, particularly regarding the firearm used.
He said: “I am also urging anyone with information on the weapon used to kill Shanice to contact us. Every time a trigger is pulled unbearable tragedies unfold. Do the right thing. Don’t stay silent.”
