A 28-year-old man from Kimberworth has been charged with the murder of former MP Ann Widdecombe
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that Joshua Kerry, of Byrley Road, Kimberworth, has been charged in connection with the death of the 78-year-old.
Kerry is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Ann Widdecombe was found dead at her home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday 9 July. Police said she had sustained serious injuries.
In a statement, the CPS said investigations into the defendant’s alleged motive remain ongoing, including whether there was any political or terrorist connection to the case.
The charge follows an investigation led by Devon & Cornwall Police, supported by Counter Terrorism Policing due to the nature of the enquiries.
The case is now before the courts. Criminal proceedings are active, and it is important that reporting does not prejudice those proceedings.
Joshua Kerry has been charged with murder. The charge is an allegation, and he is entitled to a fair trial. No plea has yet been entered.
