A man who was part of the aggressive mob who attacked police officers protecting a hotel in Manvers has been jailed.
On 4 August 2024, officers at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel, in Manvers, were thrown into large-scale scenes of deplorable violence. Over 60 were injured as they protected the hotel and its occupants.
Darren Ward was one of those involved in the disorder. The 55-year-old was recorded aggressively pushing officers and displaying threatening behaviour.
Following the disorder, thousands of hours’ worth of footage was analysed to identify perpetrators of the violence. From this footage, we released several media appeals containing images of those thought to be involved.
Exactly three months after the disorder, on 4 November, Ward handed himself in at Barnsley Police Station after seeing himself in a media appeal.
When interviewed by officers, Ward refused to provide a comment when questioned about his behaviour at the hotel.
Following his arrest, he was charged with violent disorder – to which he pleaded guilty to.
Yesterday (Monday 9 March), at Sheffield Crown Court, Ward, of Norville Crescent, Barnsley, was jailed for 20 months.
