The final member of an organised crime gang responsible for flooding York and Tadcaster with cocaine has been sentenced to prison
Scott Tuohey was the eighth individual convicted as part of the group, which transported and distributed large quantities of the class A drug across North Yorkshire.
Tuohey, 49, from Greasbrough near Rotherham, was sentenced today (Wednesday) at York Crown Court to two years and four months in prison for his role in the organised crime gang.
His involvement included acting as a debt collector, during which he made serious threats in an attempt to recover money owed. Tuohey denied the offence but was found guilty following a trial.
With his sentencing, the combined prison time handed to the gang now exceeds 56 years.
As part of a major operation, North Yorkshire Policeโs Organised Crime Unit seized significant quantities of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than ยฃ50,000. One gang member was arrested while carrying ยฃ43,000 worth of high-purity cocaine in a backpack.
The remaining members of the gang were sentenced last year, receiving prison terms of up to ten years each.
Following the hearing, Detective Constable Leah Kitchen of North Yorkshire Policeโs Organised Crime Unit said: โTodayโs sentence adds to an already substantial total, with this organised crime group now facing well over half a century behind bars.
โAfter a thorough and extensive investigation, this serious organised crime gang has been dismantled and is no longer able to operate in North Yorkshire, with the final member now joining his associates who are already serving lengthy prison sentences.โ
