A determined seven-year-old from Maltby has captured hearts far and wide after raising a staggering £31,000 for a children’s hospice by running one mile every day
The idea began at home, when Noah’s parents were discussing their annual Christmas tradition of fundraising. Listening closely, Noah asked: “How can I help children who are poorly?” That simple question sparked what would become an extraordinary journey.
Noah Playforth, whose idea started as a personal challenge to support poorly children, quickly became a local inspiration as donations poured in throughout his month-long mission.
Midway through the month, Noah had already smashed his initial £4,000 target. His fundraising continued to soar, surpassing £25,000 for Rotherham’s Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and ultimately reaching an incredible £31,000 by the end of his challenge.
What started small quickly snowballed, with residents, schools, and local businesses rallying behind him as his story spread.
On Monday, December 1, crowds once again lined the streets to join Noah on his final mile, cheering him on as he completed the remarkable challenge. In one of the most touching moments of the journey, Noah crossed the finish line hand-in-hand with his new friend, Logan Shakespeare, whom he pushed over the line in his wheelchair.
The emotional finale symbolised the very spirit of Noah’s efforts — running not just for himself, but for every child supported by the hospice he set out to help.
Noah’s determination, kindness, and community spirit have turned a simple idea into a life-changing achievement — one that Maltby will remember for years to come.
