A Rotherham man has been jailed after forensic evidence linked him to the robbery of an elderly woman at her home.
Trelawny Brown, 32, of Sandbergh Road, carried out the robbery on 5 July 2024 after breaking into the home of an 82-year-old woman in the Aughton area of Rotherham.
During the break-in, Brown cut himself while forcing entry to the property, leaving blood on an internal door. Officers and crime scene investigators attended the scene, and the blood evidence was later used to identify Brown.
Following the robbery, Brown attended hospital where he claimed his injuries had been caused by falling on barbed wire. He discharged himself from hospital before police were able to arrest him.
Brown was arrested in April 2025 and charged with robbery. During his police interview on 9 April, he provided no comment to all questions.
He later pleaded guilty to robbery at Sheffield Crown Court on 21 October.
Brown was sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, 2 December, to three years and nine monthsโ imprisonment.
Detective Sergeant Melissa Green, the officer in charge of the case, said: โThe family of the victim are happy with the result and relieved to see Brown behind bars.
โBrown was careless of the fear his actions caused, and I hope that this sentence will give him time to reflect on his wrongdoing.
โNo-one should be made to feel unsafe in their own home, and we will thoroughly investigate all reports of robbery in South Yorkshire to ensure that those who cause this misery are brought before the courts.โ
