Police are investigating a reported firearms discharge after damage was caused to two properties on the same street on Tuesday night
Officers were called at 11.10pm on Tuesday 9 December following reports that the window of an address on Stanley Street had been damaged, with the damage suspected to have been caused by a firearm.
Firearms officers attended the scene, where they discovered evidence โconsistent with a firearms dischargeโ at two separate properties on the street. No injuries have been reported, and a police cordon remains in place while enquiries continue.
The ongoing investigation includes house-to-house visits, CCTV trawls and speaking with potential witnesses.
Detective Inspector Claire Moss, from the Armed Crime Team, said: “This news is concerning – criminals carrying firearms on our streets is not acceptable. There will be an increased police presence in the local area while officers carry out further enquiries.”
“Our work to track down those responsible is underway and we need to hear from anyone who knows something about this incident or suspicious goings-on in the community. Please speak to our officers while they are in Stanley Street and the surrounding area.
“Our investigation into this incident is continuing and we remain committed to relentlessly pursuing those who use firearms to spread harm, violence and fear in our communities.
