Rotherham Council has launched a recruitment drive to help tackle delays to rubbish collections
Temporary staff have already been brought in to help manage the backlog, and additional roles are now being advertised to boost capacity on collection routes.
In a statement on its website, the council acknowledged the delays had caused frustration among residents and thanked the public for their patience while crews work to catch up.
“We know that delays to bin collections in some areas have been frustrating, and weโre very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.”
“Weโre continuing to take practical steps to resolve the issue โ including bringing in and training new temporary staff to strengthen our collection teams. We also have new roles out for recruitment.”
“If your bin hasnโt been emptied as expected, please leave it in its usual collection place (where it is safe to do so). Our crews are working hard to catch up and will return to collect it as soon as possible.”
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to restore a reliable service.”
The council has also published a searchable online directory of missed collections. If a street is already listed, residents do not need to report it.
