More affordable homes will soon be available for local people as Rotherham Council continues to make strong progress toward its pledge of delivering 1,000 new homes across the borough by summer 2027
A report to Cabinet on Monday 7 July confirms that 57 additional homes have been made available for Council rent between December 2024 and the end of May 2025.
Since January 2018, the Council has delivered 687 high-quality affordable homes โ including both Council-rented and Shared Ownership properties. These homes have been delivered through a combination of new builds and acquisitions from various sources, including private developers and the open market.
A further 216 homes are currently under construction or are in the process of being purchased. Most of the remaining homes needed to meet the 1,000-home target have already been identified, with a small number to be acquired through the open market, where the Council has a strong track record.
To further boost the number of affordable homes, Cabinet will also be asked to approve plans to build 18 two- and three-bedroom homes on Denman Road in Wath. This is one of three sites earmarked for Council housing in the area, with an additional 10 homes planned for Bushfield Road and Valley Drive โ all subject to the planning process.
