Rotherham Council is celebrating a key milestone in its pledge to deliver 1,000 Council homes for local people – after receiving the keys to its 700th property.
Since January 2018, the Council has delivered hundreds of high-quality, affordable homes – including homes for Council rent and shared ownership – by building new properties or acquiring them from private developers and the open market.
The milestone property was built by Harron Homes at its Laughton Gate development in Dinnington and is part of three homes that will soon be available for shared ownership.
Councillor Linda Beresford, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “I’m delighted that the Council has delivered its 700th home. It has been an incredible journey for everyone involved, from our own staff to our contractors and private home builders, to the residents who have moved into these properties.
“I’m grateful to Harron Homes for helping us to reach this important milestone, which brings us another step closer to fulfilling our promise of delivering 1,000 Council homes by summer 2027.
“Developing new homes, whether for rent or shared ownership is a key priority for us, to ensure that more local people can access affordable housing which suits their needs.”
The Council’s housing delivery programme continues to play a vital role in creating sustainable communities and improving access to affordable homes across the borough.
