The quick-thinking actions of a team of officers in Swinton resulted in a woman in distress being found on the wrong side of railway bridge railings and brought to safety
On Saturday (26 July), South Yorkshire Police received reports that a woman was on a bridge in Swinton. PCs Olivia Roddis and Thomas Treanor, along with Acting Sergeant Jordan Holgate, swiftly responded to the scene and found the woman on the wrong side of the bridge railings.
Concerned for her safety, the officers made the immediate decision to hold onto the woman, selflessly putting her wellbeing above their own. They continued speaking to her, offering reassurance and support, until they were able to lift her back over the railings to safety.
Speaking of the trio’s actions, Rotherham Response Chief Inspector James Bennett said: “The quick decision-making and selfless actions shown by PCs Roddis and Treanor and A/Sgt Holgate meant a potentially tragic situation was avoided.”
The experience of all three officers shone through and exemplified one of our core duties as police officers to protect life. They are a credit to South Yorkshire Police and I hope the public will share my gratitude to them for potentially saving this woman’s life.”
