South Yorkshire Police are urging the public not to call 999 or 101 to report breaches of the upcoming hosepipe ban, which comes into effect across Yorkshire tomorrow (Friday, 11 July).
The temporary restrictions will prohibit the use of hosepipes for watering gardens, washing cars, and other non-essential outdoor activities.
A police spokesperson said: โIf you are concerned that someone is breaching the hosepipe ban after this date, please do not call us on 999 or 101 to report this.
“Instead, contact Yorkshire Water online at yorkshirewater.com. They will follow up on your report.”
“Please help us make sure those who need to reach us on 999 and 101 can do so.โ
Between April and June, Yorkshire Water reported supplying an additional 4.3 billion litres of water compared to an average year, placing unprecedented pressure on the regionโs water resources.
Reservoir levels now stand at just 55.8%, which is 26.1% below the typical average for this time of year.
