A 24-year-old Man has been jailed after dashcam footage and forensic evidence linked him to a stolen vehicle from Rotherham
The Ford Transit van was reported stolen from an address in Todwick, Rotherham, on 7 December 2024. It was recovered by officers on 11 December in the Norfolk Park area of Sheffield.
During digital analysis of the vanโs dashcam, investigators captured a manโs voice describing how he was bleeding from a head injury. The voice was identified as 24-year-old Mason Cartledge.
A forensic examination of the vehicle revealed blood inside, which was matched to Cartledge following DNA testing. He was arrested on 16 January.
On 16 July at Sheffield Crown Court, Cartledge, of Sheffield Road, Woodhouse, pleaded guilty to one count of handling stolen goods and was jailed for 15 months. He was found not guilty of theft and burglary.
Detective Sergeant Melissa Green said: “We know the impact vehicle theft has on our communities and the real effect it has on people’s daily lives.
Cartledge showed no remorse for his crimes and likely thought he had got away with his offending.
However, the relentless and dedicated work of the investigation team – especially the OIC Investigating Officer Shannon Lake – ensured this was not the case and that Cartledge will now spend time behind bars.”
