An inquest has heard that two sisters drowned in pools located within Wales’s largest national park
Hajra Zahid, 29, and Haleema Zahid, 25, were found in pools along the Watkin Pathโone of the main routes leading to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (also known as Snowdon) in North Wales on 11 June.
North Wales Police reported being called to the scene in Eryri National Park at 9:31pm after receiving information that one woman had been pulled from the water and another was still in the pools.
The sisters, originally from Pakistan but residing in Maltby, were pronounced dead at the scene before 11pm.
On Wednesday (18 June), inquests into their deaths were formally opened at the Dafydd Orwig Chamber in Caernarfon. Assistant coroner for north-west Wales, Sarah Riley, confirmed that both women had โsadly died as a result of drowning.โ
She added that investigations into the circumstances of their deaths are ongoing and the inquest has been adjourned to allow these inquiries to continue. She extended her condolences to the sistersโ family and friends.
The coroner noted that the sisters had travelled to the Nant Gwynant area with university friends. A friend later identified the pair as students at the University of Chester.
