Two men have been found guilty of murder following the death of 38-year-old Lee Peter Davies, who was fatally stabbed in Rotherham Town Centre in June 2024.
Simon Welsh, Jake Shaw, and Martin Shaw stood trial at Sheffield Crown Court over the course of three weeks.
On Tuesday 18 June 2024, emergency services were called to reports of an altercation in a car park on Drummond Street. Lee Davies was found critically injured with a stab wound and was taken to hospital, where he sadly later died.
Today (Wednesday 16 April), a jury returned a verdict, finding Simon Welsh, 37, of Doncaster Road, Rotherham, and Jake Shaw, 27, of Canklow Road, Rotherham, guilty of murder. Welsh was also found guilty of Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent in relation to a separate incident in November 2023.
Martin Shaw was found not guilty of murder.
Welsh and Jake Shaw are due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday 19 June.
Following the verdict, Lee Daviesโ family issued the following statement: โToday we feel that justice has been served and we welcome the guilty verdict placed upon the defendants. Losing our son, Lee Peter Davies, has taken an enormous toll on our family.
โHe will be missed beyond measure, especially by his two young children who now have to grow up and navigate life without a father.
โWe would like to thank the jury, the heroic witnesses who came to court, and the investigation team for their time and efforts. A special thanks also goes to the prosecution team, the OIC, the SIO, and our Family Liaison Officer.
โWe now ask that we are afforded the time to grieve for Lee privately, knowing that his murderers are going to be punished appropriately.โ
