Motorists are facing major delays on the M1 southbound this afternoon after a vehicle overturned between Junction 36 (Tankersley) and Junction 35a.
National Highways: Yorkshire confirmed that traffic has been stopped in the affected area following the collision. Recovery efforts are currently underway at the scene.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M1 southbound in South Yorkshire between J36 (Tankersley) and J35a due to a collision. Recovery is ongoing at scene.”

Drivers are being warned of severe delays, with an estimated 45-minute wait and around five miles of congestion leading up to the incident. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes if possible.
There is no confirmed time for when the southbound carriageway will reopen.
