Get ready to join in the carnival spirit tomorrow when Roots – Rotherham Street Carnival returns to Rotherham Town Centre on Saturday 29 March
The free event will be a highlight of the boroughโs Childrenโs Capital of Culture programme 2025. There will be something for everyone with a breathtaking carnival procession through the Town Centre, accompanied by lively music, creative workshops, vibrant puppets including Hope the Hedgehog, and performances from local groups and organisations
The festivities and performances start at 11am, the parade sets off from Rotherham Minster at 3pm and ends at 4pm.
A focus of Roots this year will be the showstopping Jitterbug, a giant interactive inflatable in All Saintsโ Square. Jitterbug is created and produced by Trigger. This was originally commissioned by The Cultural Programme, University of Oxford for KAFKA24, a celebration of the global legacy of author Franz Kafka.
Visitors can enjoy performances by Khula Arts, Punjabi Roots, Rotherham BMX, Nova City, Rotherham Youth Choir, Tamil Dance, artworks by the community and a stage filled with performances from young bands and dance and drama youth groups. We hope you can join us for this amazing Street Carnival!
Roots Rotherham Street Carnival is a collaboration between Rotherham Council and the Children’s Capital of Culture, supported with funding from UK Shared Prosperity Fund and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
