Police have released footage of a driver, who fell asleep at the wheel after crashing into the side of a house in Kimberworth
While on patrol on Monday (30 December), officers came across a 40-year-old man asleep in the front seat of a car at the scene of a road traffic collision on Pit Street in Kimberworth.
When officers approach the vehicle, they suspected the driver was over the prescribed limit of alcohol.
The man, who was drifting in and out of consciousness, was unfit to provide a roadside breath sample.
When asked to get out of the vehicle to be transported to custody, the man was unable to stand or walk by himself, with officers assisting him until he was safely placed in a police vehicle.
The driver was deemed unfit to provide a breath sample in custody and was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Temporary Roads Policing Inspector Brandon Brown, said: โWe are releasing this footage on New Years Eve to shows road users just how dangerous drink driving can be.
โMany people will be sensible tonight, and choose to use public transport or a taxi as their method of transportation when they celebrate the new year starting. But we are urging you to think twice before you get behind the wheel tomorrow โ you very well may still be over the limit.โ
This year, 47 people have lost their lives on the roads of South Yorkshire.
T/Inspector continues: โEveryone has a responsibility when it comes to making sure you are fit to get behind the wheel.
โWe are dedicated to creating safer roads, and will be out tonight and tomorrow, ensuring that we catch those who pose an increased risk to other road users, please do your part.โ
The man failed to consent to having his sample analysed and has beenย reported on summons.
