Princess Anne made a visit to Sheffield on Wednesday, arriving by Royal Helicopter and proceeding through the city under police escort
The royal tour included stops at some of Sheffield’s most significant industrial and research facilities, highlighting the city’s role in cutting-edge innovation.
One of the stops on her visit was the University of Sheffield’s new Gene Therapy Innovation and Manufacturing Centre (GTIMC). There, Her Royal Highness took a tour of the facility and met with researchers working on life-changing therapies. The Princess also spoke with patients benefiting from the groundbreaking treatments being developed, emphasising the importance of innovation in modern healthcare.
Earlier in the day, Princess Anne visited Sheffield Forgemasters, where she was shown the company’s heavy forging operations at their Brightside Lane facilities, engaging with employees from all levels of the 675-strong workforce. Sheffield Forgemasters has been undergoing a major recapitalization, and the Princess was briefed on the company’s investment in new state-of-the-art facilities that will secure its future in steel production.
The itinerary also included a visit to E.ON’s Blackburn Meadows renewable energy plant, where Princess Anne learned about the site’s sustainable energy initiatives. The plant plays a key role in Sheffield’s environmental efforts, further diversifying the city’s industrial landscape.
