Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 20-year-old man in Wickersley on Sunday (2 June).
Shortly after 4pm, police were called to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Morthen Road at the junction with Moat Lane.
It is reported that a silver Land Rover Discovery and silver Subaru Forester were involved in a collision and left the road.
Emergency services attended and a 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the Land Rover sadly died at the scene.
Following the collision, the driver and three passengers of the Subaru Forester fled from the scene on foot.
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Matt Bolger, said: “We have now declared our investigation into this man’s death a murder investigation.
“This is in the early stages and our team of detectives are working hard with extensive enquiries to piece together the circumstances of what happened on Sunday afternoon. I would strongly encourage the public not to speculate about the incident and respect the privacy of those affected.
