M1 closed as Air Ambulance lands on carriageway

A crash on the M1 brought traffic to a standstill earlier today

South Yorkshire Police closed the M1 in both directions at 10.58am this morning (Friday 2nd February) after a collision involving a car and a HGV near to J35 Rotherham.

Emergency closed the stretch of motorway between J35 Thorpe Hesley and J35A Stocksbridge

Traffic was stopped on the northbound side the M1 for a short period to allow Air Ambulance teams to arrive at the scene.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Three people have been taken to hospital in road ambulances after suffering minor injuries.
