Police have shared footage of the moment they uncovered a cannabis plant in Eastwood Industrial Estate
On Tuesday (23 January), police received reports regarding suspicious energy use in a commercial estate in the Eastwood area of the town.
Officers from the Central neighbourhood policing team suspected something wasn’t quite right. Their policing instincts proved correct as they uncovered over 5,000 cannabis plants in a disused unit on Sycamore Road.
The plants have been estimated to be worth £5.2 million, with the final count coming to 5,208 fully grown plants.
Neighbourhood Police Team Inspector John Crapper comments on the find his team discovered. He said: “This is the second significant cannabis farm our officers in the Central neighbourhood team have discovered in the last few weeks.
“We know cannabis production can be linked to organised crime, which we always seek to tackle and deal with.”
Antonio Selishta, 29, Admir Nezaj, 41, Zenel Batolhoghi, 41, and Isuf Rexha, 61, have been charged for being concerned in the cultivation of cannabis. They have all been remanded in custody.
Earlier this month (10 January), officers discovered over 4,300 plants worth an estimated £4.3m while conducting a warrant on Howard Street. No arrests have been made in connection with that incident, but enquiries remain ongoing.
