Police ‘reviewing circumstances’ after motorist issued ticket for using access route to Catcliffe

by Admin

Local residents said that traffic cops had been preventing motorists from using a link road which provides access to Catcliffe during floods

Wood Lane, located between Brinsworth and Catcliffe was being used by residents to enter and exit Catcliffe whilst floods prevented access to Orgreave Road and Poplar Way.

The Bridge, which is designated for ‘No Entry Except busses’ was described by a local resident as “vital, the road allows access for residents attempting to travel to nearby amenities whether be it shops or to temporary accommodation”

We contacted South Yorkshire Police to clarify the current situation, they responded saying “On Saturday 21 October a traffic offence report was issued by an officer on routine patrol on Wood Lane, in relation to the misuse of the bus lane.”

“Officers are currently reviewing the circumstances surrounding the issuing of this ticket, taking into account the circumstances in the area at the time.”

“There has been an increased police presence in the area in recent days, and throughout the night, in order to provide support to those affected by the recent flooding, and we would encourage anyone with concerns to stop and speak to our officers.”

In 2019, when flooding prevented access to Canklow, police issued two tickets to motorists, and later said “Due to circumstances with flooding in the local area these tickets are in the process of being cancelled and the drivers are being informed.”
