‘Emergency’ bridge repairs will be complete in 2023 says Rotherham Council

Rotherham Council have said that ‘Emergency’ Bridge Repairs on Centenary Way won’t be complete until Autumn 2023

On August 10th 2022 Council officials responded to the A630 Centenary Way after a section of the bridge fell from the bridge into the carpark below.

Centenary Way was reduced down to one lane for three-months whilst engineers carried out ’emergency works’ and closed for three nights on October 12, 13 and November 18th.

Rotherham Council’s Assistant Director for Planning, Regeneration and Transport, Simon Moss, confirmed the works are expected to carry on into Autumn 2023: “We can confirm that following the closure of a lane on the A630 for inspections to be undertaken on the centre of the bridge, these inspections have now been completed. We’ve opened all the lanes again on a restricted width basis and with a 30mph speed limit restriction currently in place.

“More essential repairs are planned for January and February which will require further traffic restrictions over several weekend night closures. Following completion of this work the narrow lane temporary traffic management will still be enforced until the remaining works are finished. We thank motorists for their patience whilst the bridge works repairs have been undertaken.

“We’re expecting to be able to fully open the road over the bridge during autumn 2023. Please follow Rotherham Council social media channels for updates.”
