Plans for over 150 new homes on a former sports ground in Dinnington have been approved by Rotherham Council’s planning board

Barratt Homes Yorkshire submitted a planning application to Rotherham Council in December 2020 for the development of 152 new homes on land south of Lodge Lane, with a mix of semi-detached, detached, terraced and quad style units, ranging from two, three and four-bedrooms

Located on the former Dinnington Miners Welfare ground

The 11.9-acre site comprising of overgrown grassland with a disused multi-use court and abandoned mini-golf course was previously used as a sports ground but has been disused for over ten years

The application went before the council’s planning board on 13th October where it was decided the plans would be approved, subject to conditions.

The conditions include a £663,000 contribution through a Section 106 agreement to support new sports facilities in the area.

The officer’s report said: “The scheme put forward will provide much needed new housing on an allocated housing site close to local facilities and in a sustainable location that would not result in significant impact on the local highway network, air quality or the environment.”

The application has been called in to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government – who has the power to take over the determination of the application, and may overturn the decision.
