by Admin

The 800 metre link Road between Aldwarke Lane, Stonerow Way and Stadium Way will provide a second access route to Parkgate Shopping

Plans submitted by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) detail plans to build a new roundabout on Aldwarke Lane creating a new link road to Parkgate Shopping Centre, and a new 300 space Park & Ride car park.

The new route, which is designed to relieve congestion on the A633 Rotherham Road around Parkgate Shopping will also improve traffic and bus journey times in the local area as part of a two phase project

The scheme will be delivered by SYPTE and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council as part of Sheffield City Region’s £166 million Transforming Cities Fund.

The 5.91ha land was historically used to dispose of blast furnace slag associated with the former Parkgate Steel works and formerly contained coke ovens, a tarred slag works, railway sidings, liquid waste lagoons and a subsequent aggregate working plant.
