Man arrested in connection with vehicle interference incidents

A man is currently in police custody in connection with a series of thefts and vehicle interference incidents in Wickersley and Bramley

At around 3am yesterday (17 November), a man was captured on CCTV trying door handles of cars parked along Melhaven Way, Bramley. An iPad is reported to have been taken, as well as numerous confectionery items.

In the early hours of this morning (18 November), officers received further reports of a man breaking in to a car parked on Palm Hollow Close, Wickersley

A police spokesperson said “A description of the offender was circulated to officers which led to a 39-year-old man being detained close-by.”

“He was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and remains in police custody at this time.”

Rotherham A/Sergeant Dan Guest said: “Unfortunately, burglaries and thefts do tend to spike this time of year, so please be vigilant; ensure vehicles are locked, no valuables are left on show and car keys are safely stored.

“If you spot anything suspicious, or have CCTV or dash cam footage of any suspicious activity in your area, please report it to us. We review all the information and it helps us to piece together patterns of offending and identify potential suspects.”
