Police appeal for witnesses after man dies on M1 northbound

Police have issued an appeal for motorists with any dashcam footage to come forward following a fatal collision on the M1 motorway earlier today

Shortly after 3.20am on Wednesday (15 April), emergency services were called to reports of the body of a man had been found on the northbound carriageway of the M1, near to junction 31 and Woodall Services.

The man, 24, is believed to have fallen from the bridge running over the motorway, School Lane, and collided with two heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in the carriageway, a police spokesperson said.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers, the spokesperson added.

The northbound carriageway was closed for the majority of the day to allow investigations to take place but has since been re-opened. 

Police are keen to hear from any motorists who may have been travelling on the M1 this morning who witnessed the incident, as well as those motorists who may hold dashcam footage.
