Unlicensed Brinsworth motorist admits causing death by dangerous driving

Sheffield Magistrates Court heard how unlicensed driver Matthew Hill had been driving a Land Rover Freelander on Bawtry Road, Brinsworth during the early hours of July 21st 2018.

At around 12.45am it was reported that the black Landrover Freelander driven by Hill was travelling along Bawtry Road towards the junction with Centenary Way before loosing control, leaving the road and colliding with a tree.

Mitchell John Vernon, a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died the following day. 

Matthew Hill (28) of Willowgarth Avenue, Brinsworth pleaded guilty to causing the death of Mitchell Vernon by driving the Freelander without due care and attention.

He also admitted causing the death whilst driving without a licence or an insurance policy.

Hill was given bail and made subject to an interim driving disqualification until the sentencing hearing.

The case has been referred to Sheffield Crown Court for a sentencing hearing on March 12 2020.
