Man arrested after suspicious death in Rotherham

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman in Rotherham yesterday (Wednesday 5 February).

Emergency services were called at 7.55pm yesterday evening, following reports a woman in her 30s was in cardiac arrest in an underpass on Drummond Street, Rotherham.

The woman was taken to hospital but sadly died. Formal identification is yet to take place.

A police spokesperson said “A forensic post mortem examination will take place in the coming days and detectives are treating the death as suspicious.”

“A Rotherham man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and murder and is currently in police custody.”

A police cordon remains in place around the underpass and is expected to remain there for most of today, to allow officers to carry out their enquiries.
