Teenager arrested after man (24) killed in Meadowbank collision

A teenager (19) has been arrested following a collision in Meadowbank on Sunday where a 24-year old man was killed.

A silver Ford Mondeo was travelling along the A6109 Meadow Bank Road just before 1.30am on Sunday (30th June) when it collided with wooden posts outside the Jet Petrol Station near, a police spokesperson said.

Police said that “Members of the public assisted a 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old man in the car at the scene as the emergency services were called”

The vehicle was travelling towards Rotherham, away from the M1 at the time of the collision.

“At this time, it is unclear who was driving the car.”

The 24-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

“His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers”

The 19-year-old man was also taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

Police are keen to hear from the drivers of a black Seat Leon and a dark-coloured, possibly black, Seat Altea which were both in the Jet service station at the time. 

The Altea is said to have left the forecourt, heading towards the scene of the collision. 

Anyone who witnessed the collision or had dashcam footage of the incident should call 101 quoting incident number 100 of June 30.
