Flood Alert issued for Lower River Rother

A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency this evening for Lower River Rother.

Environment Agency have advised that flooding is possible for River Rother and its tributaries from Renishaw to Rotherham.

Following a couple of days of persistent rainfall, river levels are forecast to rise. Further rainfall is forecast during this evening, Wednesday (12 June), which could lead to river levels rising throughout the night and into Thursday morning (13/06/19).

Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads.

in a message issued by the Environment Agency they said “our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast. We have a team out in the Sheffield area patrolling and checking assets.”

“Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.”

“Please stay aware in case warnings are issued and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast.”
